You are getting to be just so much fun… giving us big old smiles and bright, wide-open eyes, especially first thing in the morning. You are now sleeping six hours at night, which is considered “sleeping through the night” (I’m not sure who decided that’s a full night sleep!). When we come in your room in the morning to get you, you are full of smiles, and often just laying looking up at your new mobile. As soon as we start talking to you or making faces, your eyes light up and your grin widens to a full gummy smile, and you start cooing away. You’re a very happy, easy-going baby! Our little Aquarius.

You are a cloth-diaper baby now, which seems to be going well but does require much more frequent changings, probably about 15 a day. It’s our bonding time though, and you seem to enjoy it. You are very smart already, and seem to have figured out that being changed means that you might likely get fed next! You look at me with your big blue eyes and coo and smile and gurgle, having a little conversation. You like to use your feet alot to kick and to feel your legs under you. Still can’t pull your head up on your own but you tug with your arms and make a good effort.

We had your first Easter at Grandma and Grandpa Robbins with your Aunt Nancy and Uncle Rick. Needless to say it was yummy! You wore a white heirloom gown handed down to you from Aunt Nancy, which had been made by her mom, your Grand-Aunt Barbara. Here’s grandpa giving you the bottle.

The cherry tree outside our house is in full bloom and the roses are about to blossom. It was a perfect spring day.
Your passport arrived this week, making you a fully documented little American. Now we can travel, so we’re all set for the trip to the wedding and Toronto in May.

Also this week, your dad put our Value Words up on your walls. These are words we chose before you were born, when we talked about some of the things we felt were important in raising you. We also polled our families, to get their input. Compassion, Laughter, Grace, Patience, Happiness, Love, Faith, Confidence, Honesty, Respect, Joy, Hope.

The most important? Love. And that’s so easy!

Today you are 10 weeks and growing bigger by the day. Measuring 23 1/4 inches in height, you rank in the 76th percentile. You have gained over 4 pounds in 10 weeks, weighing in at 10.5 pounds, which puts you in the 25th percentile for weight. When I stop and think about this, you have gained over 66% of your original birth weight in these 10 weeks, quite amazing. Here you are, looking all fresh and clean after just being pulled from your little green bathtub. Your hair is looking more red/auburn, it seems to have changed even in the last couple days.

You were a brave girl this week, getting your first vaccine shots on Monday at Dr. Halaburka’s (like you had a choice!), which included 4 shots and one oral dose. First came the oral dose, and the nurse said “She’s the first 2 month old I’ve seen who just eats it like it werecandy — no fuss at all!” Then came the four needles, two in each thigh, and boy you when red in the face and screamed like I have never heard you scream. But it was fairly quick, and Grandma was there for added comfort (yours and mine!), and after a few moments you were in my arms nursing and had settled right back down.

Major changes I have noticed this week, especially while spending time together cuddling, nursing and playing:
  • lots more smiles, and oh-so alert especially first thing in the morning or when you have just woken up. You have also learned that when you go on the changing table, this is reason to smile and coo because it means the boob is coming next!
  • you love to look around and follow me as I move across the room.
  • you like to be read to, and your favorite toy is a rattle that has a nice shaking sound and bright colors.
  • you have good side-to-side neck control, and are able to swing your head from side to side while against our chests. Soon you will be able to hold your own head up.
  • your favorite pasttime, when not eating and sleeping is burping and tooting. :-)
Tomorrow the cloth diaper service starts, so we will get you out of the not-so-comfortable-disposables that you have been wearing since birth, and see how cloth goes. Grandma made you some green cloth diapers, which we tried using for an afternoon, but unfortunately we went through four outfits, even with the plastic covers. Instead, they are now being used as burping cloths.

Today you are two months old. Yet it feels like you have been part of our lives forever.

You look at me with your big blue eyes, and my heart melts. I suffer to hear you cry. Which, thankfully, you do not do often.

You greet me with a big smile in the morning, and no matter how tired I may be, soon I have forgotten — holding you in my arms and feeding. Even when you are ferociously hungry, you pause before latching on, look up at me with an ever so endearing, somewhat quizzical look, and then a moment later, begin the feed.

Your daddy loves to have cuddle time with you before heading out to work. On this particular morning, he was very tired, having been up for a few hours in the middle of the night. You were having some tummy-troubles. But overall, you’re sleeping much better, some nights we even get a full four or five hour sleep in between feedings. You weighed in at Dr. Halaburka’s last week at 9.5lbs, my little chow-hound, and we can really see it in your chubby cheeks..

Now that you are two months, you are starting to coo and gurgle more, and you have much more neck control (although you sometimes lose it, resulting in a sudden sporadic headbutt type manoever).

Your birth certificate arrived this week, and we’re now working on getting your passport so you can travel to Uncle Scott and Aunt Sarah’s wedding in Maine in May, and then on to see your grandparents, cousins and family in Toronto.

This is something that always gets your attention… the mirror! I wonder if you think it’s a friend. Or do you know it’s you, and you just like to see facial movements? It’s fun to watch you watch yourself, and I wonder what goes on in your mind.

Well, it’s almost 9pm and you’ve been asleep since 6pm, and I’m hearing little gurgling noises coming from your room. Here I come…

Happy Two Month Birthday, our little Sweet Potato (“Taite O”…livia) — we love you so!

At 7 weeks you’re very alert, making lots of eye contact and letting us know you know who we are. It’s not as much fun though as staring at my chest and sticking out your tongue, or making little baby-fish mouth movements. You are such a loved baby! You have better control of your little arms now, instead of the rapid jerky movement, it is now more big swinging motions.

You had a visit this week from Aunt Nicki and Uncle Lindsay from Australia, and we all went for dinner afterwards in North Beach.

Your grandma Robbins comes now twice a week for half days to look after you. She loves taking you for long walks, rocking you to sleep, reading to you and feeding you. She came by the other day with Sister Mary Gene, who took some photos of you home to the convent for the prayer corner.

Some of my favorite moments with you:
greeting you in the morning with your big wide-open eyes. I pick you up and you look excitedly from my eyes to my chest with a half smile. I know what you want.
snuggling with you on my chest in bed. You have even learned to nurse lying down in that when mama is very tired.
playing games together — you love to lock eyes, and you are very good at tracking as I move from side to side. You also love the rattle and will follow its movement, up, down and around.
going out for dinners, you are very content and easy-going. You also are happy being passed to the arms of friends and never make a fuss.

Some photos from your 7th week.

Before I had you, I could not imagine loving you so much.
