Sometimes you topple and look all surprised, but you have just learned to sit up on your own. This picture was taken the first day you sat up unsupported, (although I did find a fistful of grass when I picked you up afterwards!). You are quite the roller now, not staying in one place very long sometimes.
Last weekend we went on your first hike, you were perched on a carrier on daddy’s back and we went to Castle Rock up in Santa Cruz Mountains. You loved looking at all the big Madrone trees and watching the rock climbers. It was a beautiful day. You love going in the pool with us and are very comfortable in the water. We started swim lessons this week at AVAC and learned how to encourage you to kick and to be comfortable going underwater. You are such a little fish! Your Grandma and Grandpa came back from Europe this week, and noted how alert and aware of your environment you are. You love to stare at Grandma’s glasses. Grandpa takes lots of pictures of you, always says “What are you doing growing up!”, and thinks you are pretty sweet. They sure missed you. So does your Oma and Opa in Toronto, and we are planning a trip for Canadian Thanksgiving.

One of my favorite things is to hear your infectious laughter. After an afternoon with Brittany, when I come back downstairs and you are in my arms, you laugh and giggle and gurgle and your eyes twinkle, it so makes my heart sing.

It took about 20 minutes of crying, but you made it to sleep on your own without the usual ritual of falling asleep nursing. It was really tough on mommy and daddy, but we had faith that you could do it, and you did. Atta’ girl!!

This is how you have started to give kisses. You don’t discriminate — cheeks, chins, noses, you like to kiss them all. When I bury my nose into your neck to give you loud-smacking kisses back you giggle and coo repeatedly and it’s an instant rush of joy to hear you, and to watch your laughing eyes dance. You’ve also started to blow bubbles and babble, sometimes facilitated by having a hand in your mouth.
We started MusicalMe classes last week, a sing-along group with four other babies. You LOVED it! There’s one song where I have a brightly colored bandana and wave it around in the air and swoop it down on you and you giggle hysterically. We have CDs at home and in car now, and daddy is coming on Saturday with us to the next class (we missed this week because you fell asleep on the way to class and I didn’t want to wake you, so we are doing a makeup class).
You had a VCUG to eliminate possibility of urinary tract reflux problems, because of the bladder infection. Everything was good, and you were very brave during the procedure. No more medical things planned now, thankfully.
Brittany, your part time nanny started today. She is very good with you, and you took a liking to her immediately. She is a 20 year old, starting as a freshman at San Jose State this fall. As hard as it is for me to give up time with you during the day, it is a big help so mommy can get some work done on her business. And then, after 3-4 hours I come back downstairs, and you are all grins and I am not stressed, and we have a nice evening together!
Everyone comments on how pretty you are and how easy going and good you are. Your daddy and I agree we are so lucky to have such a perfect little baby!

You weighed in today at your 6 month Wellness Visit at 15lb 15 oz, and 27 inches long, which puts you at 90% for height, and 50% for weight. Third round of immunization vaccines today, you screamed but were quickly placated afterwards. It’s so hard to see you in pain.

Six months ago today, what a magical day… here we are, you’re growing so fast, getting more and more entertaining each day. Still really good, easy, happy and a ton of fun to be with. Here you are on your six month birthday before we went in for a swim. We also went for portrait session today and there are some really great pictures coming!

We dropped Grandma and Grandpa Robbins off at the airport last week for Europe and you met Uncle Chuck and Aunt Betsy. You are missing your grandma’s visits while she’s away.

We went into San Francisco for your first visit and walked through the arboretum in Golden Gate Park. You were fascinated by all the moving branches, flowers and leaves.

You’re now eating your meals in your new highchair and are quite impressed to be sitting at the table with us, no longer leaning back in the bouncer chair for meals. All food is interesting to you, now you’re eating prunes and oatmeal mix, apples, pears and rice cereal. You can almost sit upright, propped up on your arms for a few moments before you fall forward like some yoga position I can’t recall the name of and have never quite mastered. You’re rolling around on your own, you sometimes surprise me when I turn around and you are off your blanket or gym mat, I don’t know how you get around!

Here are some more pictures from the last week: swimming in the pool, which you now love — you even ‘kick’ your feet (and you went underwater last week, twice, after we blew in your face to get you to close your eyes and mouth, no tears but a bit surprised looking!); jumping in your bouncer; and crashed after your swim and a cuddle-feed in bed with mommy. You were thrilled to put your feet on the grass outside today and pull it out with your hands.

Here’s a fun day, you and daddy spashin’ in the pool. He’s off work this week, so loving spending time with his favorite little girl. We’ve got you covered in sun protective clothing, your skin so fair. You are liking the water, although you haven’t been under yet.

This week you are holding the bottle by yourself at nighttime feed, guiding it to your mouth and holding to make sure it doesn’t get taken away. You also like to eat rice cereal and now apple baby food, also trying to guide the spoon into your mouth (nowhere close!). You tried pear but weren’t so impressed, your mouth turned upside down and most of the pears came back out faster than they went in. You glance at me as if to say “What are you trying to feed me, mommy???” with a look of disbelief … that I would trick you like that.

You can almost sit up, perching on your hands. Not quite there yet, you fall forward after a minute, but it’s very close now.

Here’s a cute picture of you dressed up to go to your friend Nolan’s BBQ.
