You ate your first real solid food August 31st, at Lewis and Clarissa’s party. Some little cheerio-like peach flavored tidbits that dissolve in the mouth, but require a bit of chewing. With a look of concern as you took it in your mouth, you quickly started to chew it between your gums… not an easy feat given you have no teeth yet. A bit of a raised eyebrow, but after you figured it out you were quite eager to get the next one!
It was so hot, you couldn’t sleep… or at least, you woke up at 9pm, so we all went skinny-dipping. Err, well, YOU went skinny dipping, and we all had fun watching you “kick, kick, kick…”. After 30 minutes you were exhausted and fell sound asleep zzzzzzzzzzzz.
Grandma maybe had the most fun of all!
Fun memories for all of us with our little fish.
We purchased a web cam and now we can have video conferences with Oma and Opa in Toronto. They can see you and you can see them … and as they were talking to you, you looked around the room to find where the voices were coming from.
This week you went out for the first time on your own with Grandma, she took you to pick up Sister Mary Gene at the convent and then to go to Trader Joe’s. Sister Mary Gene has had a special prayer corner for you since we were first expecting, and is an avid reader of your blog, and even prints pictures to send to other friends of your grandma’s.
You are getting into more of a schedule now, with regular nap times and feedings. And you are in bed at night by 7:30 p.m. and are seeping through the night until between 6 and 7 a.m.. You don’t have any teeth yet, but that does not slow you down from gumming food down ( although it is pur?ed of course). You’re sitting confidently now, and rarely fall over — usually when you try to look behind you if I’m leaving the room for example. You have become quite good at entertaining yourself, and will sit on the floor playing with some toys for 15 or 20 minutes quite easily.
A new thing you do that’s funny, when being rocked on my chest, you look into my eyes and then attack my chin or mouth with a big gummy kiss. At first I thought you were trying to tell me you were still hungry. I think this is your first attempt to express emotion. I give you a big hug back and whisper in your ear “I love you, too!”
We think you just may be the easiest baby ever, you rarely fuss or cry unless tired or hungry, and you’re sleeping well now.
You can sit on your own now without toppling over. You laugh and giggle easily, and like to
sit bouncing on my belly singing the Galloping Pony or the Wiggle Wiggle song. You’re not crawling yet but you sure would like to.
Eating is a favorite activity. Doesn’t seem to matter much what, milk (breast or bottle), and homemade foods including oatmeal and prunes, mango with banana, sweet potato and chicken, pureed pasta. Licking the spatula is a good thing to do when you have to wait while Mommy preps things. Today you were nursing by the pool as I was eating some guacamole and you kept breaking away and looking intently at the guacamole. Well, you like that too!
Daddy was away last week for five days to attend the funeral of Great Aunt Margie, who passed away suddenly. It was a sad time for the family. You noticed that daddy was gone, you’d look over while in bed with me in the morning. When he returned it was big smiles. He brought back two special gifts from Aunt Barb and Uncle Dan, a wood carved horse musical box and pull toy zoo animal (with pink caboose!). Your face lit up the first time you saw the horse turning to the music. Thank you Barb and Dan!
You’ve really taken to Brittany, who comes three times a week for half days so mommy can get some work done. She lets you pull her long blonde hair, she reads to you, sings, and takes you for walks in your stroller when you need to fall asleep.
Grandma and Grandpa love spending time with you. Grandpa fed you for the first time this week and you loved it. We’ve booked a flight to Toronto to see your Canadian grandparents and cousins in October for two and a half weeks.
