How you laugh when you realize you can impact us. Sitting at dinner table, you throw your arms in the air. We throw our arms up, mimicking you. Big giggle. You clap, looking at us half expectingly. We clap. Another big giggle. Arms in the air. Our arms in the air. More big giggles. It’s pretty funny.

You’re cutting new teeth. You have two top, two bottom, then one on top left, another on bottom left, and I think one more. You’re sound asleep, so I’ll leave it to speculation :-).

We walked down our street today to neighbors, you loved reaching for the stray kitty cat, and watching the boys next door. You’re a little shy, hesitating to go to a stranger now. This is new, you used to go quite willingly from person to person.

Dinner tonight with Nolan, Heather and Dave, some fun photos especially of you two pushing one another in the Radio Flyer wagon. You stayed up past your normal bedtime and then crashed. It’s nice to have good friends!

Motherhood is a lot of different experiences.

It’s the mundane of changing diapers and preparing meals, it’s the ultimate joy of having your little arms thrown around my neck in the most loving and exhuberant kind of embrace, it’s the worry about what you’re going to grab from the floor to put in your mouth or where you might fall. There are countless joys, and there are many stresses. But nothing is as gut-wrenchingly painful as watching you suffer through injections, IV drip implantation, xrays, nose suctioning, nebulizer treatments and oxygen tubes attached to your cheeks at the hospital. It doesn’t seem fair, that this is your second hospitalization this winter. You were admitted through ER again on Sunday at 4am, with xrays confirming pneumonia. You’ve had colds for about 3 weeks or a month now, and it is down in your lungs so you have a wheezing cough and rattling chest.

Happy to be home!
“What was THAT all about???”
Tonight you are home, resting peacefully in your crib as I tap away on the keyboard here. We’re all exhausted after this brief stay in hospital. You recovered more quickly than anticipated, our Warrior Princess — very motivated you were to get far from the needles, suctioning tubes and all that horrible stuff. But aren’t we lucky to have such great care. You had a big long 2 hour or so nap on Grandma’s lap this afternoon, right after you got up from a nap. “I was reading to her, and I looked down and she was out!” You woke up and you were so animated and in such a good mood. It’s great to have our sweet Taite back!

You make the FUNNIEST faces!! Winking, squinting eyes closed, pouting out your lower lip, you’re just a little clown!

In your 13th month now, you have discovered the secret of hiding the food you don’t like (the first was salmon) down the sides of your highchair. Grandma reports that you also will drop what you don’t want over the side for Mup, your dog friend.

It’s very cute to eat with you and, raising a glass toward you, say “cheers”. With a glimmer in your eyes, you quickly reach for your sippy cup and raise it to clink.
Last week daddy was very impressed that you had led him to your pink potty in the bathroom. On a hunch, he placed you on the potty and sure enough, you went to work.
I now say “Where’s mommy’s eyes” and you turn and point a finger to my eyes.
This was your first Valentine’s Day card, from Oma. Every time you are eating, you see it on the piano and point to it, proclaiming “aaeo?”, then turn it over and over looking at it.

Your favorite new object is a pink inflatable bathtub shaped as a duck, and it quacks. You love to sit in it and splash.

Here is that funny little pretend pout you do. You love playing with Brittany, both of you are posing with the pouting lips here. She takes you to the park, and is very good playing with you, and knowing when you need a nap or a meal. We are lucky to have her for 3 half days a week, and whenever she arrives your eyes light up, all happy to see her.

We went to specialist today at Lucille Packard for examination of your rash, which is a strange one. It is only on your left side and has been there for 2 weeks now. After 2 visits to Dr. Hal, we were referred to dermatologist. Here’s the diagnosis:
” Unilateral laterothoracic exanthem (ULE) is a puzzling rash that I have only seen a few times. It begins in the areas around the armpit (axilla), the side of the trunk, upper inner arm, or groin. It tends to extend farther out the extremities and down the body (cetrifugal extension). It is also known as “asymmetric periflexural exanthem of childhood.” More

Oma left this morning (your 13th month), we had a nice four day visit with her. You didn’t want her to leave, and thought it would be nice if she just moved in, she was so much fun to play with. She entertained you with Trot Trot to Boston and Ride to Grandmothers, she introduced you to sticky rice at a sushi restaurant in Los Gatos. You put your hand in, and pulled it out with rick stuck to each finger. You looked at it, held up your hand, and shook each finger, quite amazed it was still hanging on! She took you shopping for your first birthday and you came home with lots of goodies, including two new sunhats, a little spoon set, some cute little hairclips. Your bangs are getting longer now, and I’m not going to cut them anymore, I’m going to let them grow. Sometimes even when you’re wearing pink I get asked “How old is your littly boy?” and although noone I know thinks you look anything at all like a little boy, I figure longer hair will be very feminine and cute on you. So little bow clips will be nice to wear.

We miss Oma tonight. It’s strange having her with us for four days and then not here. We will see her and also Opa in July when we go to Caledon Lake.

You are really big on kisses these days. You come at the kissee with an open mouth and look of considerable intent. And you give the best full arm wrapping around neck hugs ever. Here’s a picture Oma captured of you with your flirty eyes. You squint them up and peer out, usually with a grin on your face.

While eating, I’ll say “Where’s mommy’s ?” and you immediately stretch out your arm offering up what you are eating. It amazes me sometimes what you comprehend. We’re working on sign language but we haven’t been very disciplined yet. It would be nice if you could express yourself a little more. You’re still fascinated with lights and can now easily flip switches on and off, and as I carry you by your favorite hallway light, you pipe “aaauh?”. I backtrack, and you switch the flip up and down, up and down, each time looking at the effect on the light as it comes on and off.
