We went to Montalvo Center for the Arts today for a hike and garden tour. You found a eucalyptus leaf and were quite intrigued by it. It was really hot day, in the 90s which is odd for September. We came home for a swim in the pool.

You’ve learned to close your eyes and like to blink open and close and look up at me. Sitting on the potty, you’ll also practice sometimes.

You’ve very good at recognizing body parts, including:
your heart, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, fingers, knees, toes, private parts, bottom (you slap your rear end when I ask “where’s your bottom?”. )

This week you learned how to get the car key into the ignition. When we pull into the driveway, you sport a big smile and point to the driver side door. You want the garage remote, so you can raise the door. On our way in, you must stop to press the button to lower the door back down. Passing by anyone’s car, you point to the driver’s door and utter ‘uh, uh, uh!’. How long before you’re asking us for the keys…

You love jumping on the sofa from the leather coffee table chest (okay, sign of a first time parents. We thought it was cute at first, now thinking it’s probably not such a good idea.  Too late for that!) You’re shy to say words around other people, but you’re recognizing pretty much everything. This morning we put about 10 hair clips in your hair and you looked into the mirror like you thought you were pretty cute. I said “go and show daddy your hair!” and off you trotted down the hall to the bathroom to show daddy.

Anything silly or unexpected makes you giggle and you’re very imaginative and creative. The soundbyte below is of your giggles while mommy is ‘chewing’ your toes, as you were chewing the toes of your Jackie doll. Listen…

You’ve mastered wall-climbing… at least, up the ladder in the castle. Once perched on top, you like to put your arms out and ‘jump’ down to me. I’m hoping you don’t start trying this acrobatic on your own when I’m not there to catch you.

Funny how so often, the most giggles come when just hanging out together at home. I used to feel like I had to go places with you, show you things, or entertain you outside of the house.

Sunday morning, you and I built this fort. A bed sheet, some masking tape, and our sofas. Mr. Longears the Bunny and some of your small furry friends, and a few bits of play food… we made some yummy Gigglerooni.

Much happier you are in this photo having chocolate cake than you were last week with roseola. Fever and rash now all gone, another childhood illness under your belt.
Your words you point out in a photo book include:

Plane
Car
Ball
Duck
Light
Baby
Spoon fork
Apple
Tomato
Banana
Cup
Clock
Keys
Phone
House
Dog
Cat reaches out hand
Rabbit hands to ears
Pig

At bedtime, you are learning to stall now. You’ll pop your hands together and look intently at me, telling me you have to go poop. You sit on the potty, happily flipping through books, but no, no work to do. You’ve mastered the art of stalling.

It was a cooler day, and mommy didn’t feel like getting into the pool. You did. Restricted to the top two stairs, you weren’t thrilled. So you got out, walked behind me, and tapped me on back to encourage me to hop in. It worked.

You heard birds chirping outside the kitchen while you were eating. You pointed, “ah, ah! ah!” so I got you up and we walked out to see the birds. There on the ground in the driveway was Tiger the neighborhood cat, proudly looking over his prey, a small yellow breasted finch. We rescued your first little bird. Temporarily, at least. Nicki, next door, announced that she later found feathers.

Nipples are a current fascination. Some neighborhood friends were playing with you in the pool. You pointed to your nipples after swimming, saying “ples.. ples” and little Tara announced “I have nipples too!” Her big brother Scott, 5, declared “Dead people have nipples too.” We all laughed, and so did you. You seem to always know when something is funny, even before everyone is laughing.
